Slow Cooker Baked Beans

If you’re looking for one of the easiest, tastiest and nutritious recipes, this is it. We are going to make our beans in the slow cooker but you could make them in the oven, pressure cooker it’s totally up to you. But this recipes it amazing for those business people.

Simple soak your navy beans the night before. Why soak your beans, glad you ask. Well, most people say beans make them gassy and that’s why they don’t want to eat them. First of all if you don’t usually consume beans and you have a large amount you may have some issues and that is because your consuming a large amount of fiber. Those you don’t eat a whole food plant based diet or high fiber diet on regular bases will have some issues when they switch. So remember to gentle ease into add more fiber into your diet to help with any issues. Soaking your beans will help with that. Remember to soak and drain and rinse with clean water and cook your beans in clean water. Soaking allows them to cook faster and more evenly. Some people say add salt others say don’t, apparently adding salt is suppose to allow the beans to cook faster. Also, cooking your beans in a pressure cooker is also suppose to help with digestion. So if your in a hurry and don’t have time to soak you can just cook your beans in the pressure cooker.

For this recipe, we are going to keep it simple and let’s soak them before we go to bed. Put the beans in the slow cooker and pour water over them. Have the rest of your ingredients ready in the morning.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lbs navy beans, soaked over night
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • ¼ cup ketchup or tomato sauce
  • cup blackstrap molasses or brown sugar
  • ¼ cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 ½ cups water

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients in slow cooker and set to cook for 8 hours on low or 4-6 hours on high. Stir occasionally. Adjust seasoning at the end.
