Why This Apple Crisp is So Healthy
- Apples – Packed with fiber, antioxidants, and natural sweetness, apples are a powerhouse fruit that supports digestion and heart health. Baking them brings out their natural sugars, making them a perfect base without needing refined sugar.
- Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats – The crispy topping is made with hearty oats, which are high in fiber and keep you full longer. They also provide sustained energy, making this apple crisp an excellent option for breakfast.
- Cinnamon – More than just flavor, cinnamon is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to help balance blood sugar. It’s the perfect warming spice for apples.
- Maple Syrup – A natural sweetener that brings depth and caramel-like flavor while avoiding processed sugar.
- Unsweetened Applesauce – The secret to making this recipe oil-free. It keeps the topping moist while reducing fat and calories, making this crisp lighter but still indulgent.
- Pecans – These add a rich crunch along with healthy fats, protein, and minerals. They turn a simple crisp into something special.
